Mob lynches mentally ill man after he killed his father in Makueni
A mentally ill man was lynched by a mob after he attacked and killed his father in Ndetani sub-location, Makueni County, just a month after another mentally ill man was killed by villagers for injuring his brother in the same county.
Joseph Muteti, 37, is said to have hit his father Muteti Musyimi, 72, on the head after an altercation, killing him on the spot, on Tuesday.
His mother raised the alarm alerting villagers who responded and lynched him. In her statement, she said her son had refused to take his medicine.
Police said they had transferred the bodies to the mortuary and launched investigations amid concerns over rising cases of mob justice.
In another related case in Mtito Andei within the same county, another mentally ill man, Daniel Maingi, was killed by villagers after he stabbed and seriously injured his brother.
“Members of the public responded and attacked him before tying him with ropes. On physical observation, he had visible injuries on the back of the head and bruises on both hands,” police said
Police in Nairobi are also investigating a case in which an employee of Serena Hotel was stabbed to death as he was opening his gate in Kariobangi estate.
Emmanuel Khamasi, 44, had arrived home at about 2am yesterday and as usual, he called his wife to open the main gate for him.
The wife told police she woke up and threw the key to the man from the balcony as it is the norm and walked back to her bed.
Police said it was then that unknown people confronted Khamasi prompting a fight. The attackers, who are believed to have targeted him for valuables, including cash and mobile phone, stabbed him in the chest killing him on the spot.
