Minister rings changes in regional administration

Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has made wide-ranging changes in the regional administration which saw the promotion of two regional commissioners.

Matiang’i said in a statement the changes which take effect immediately were done after consultations with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The changes saw long serving administrators Moffat Kangi and Wilson Njega promoted to the positions of Principal Administrative Secretary and the Secretary Internal Security, respectively. They will be based at Harambee House.

Before the promotion, Njega was the Regional Commissioner in charge of the Nairobi Region and was directly in charge of the enforcement of the month long cessation of movement into and out of the capital city. 

Ministry headquarters

Also moved to the ministry headquarters is Anne Ng’etich, the outgoing Western Regional commissioner. 

A long serving media-shy administrator, Ng’etich is best remembered for her role in quelling the ethnic skirmishes in the Mt Elgon sub county, Bungoma County.

She was also instrumental in eliminating killer gangs that wreaked havoc in Matungu, Vihiga, Butere and Khwisero sub counties two years ago. 

Also affected in the transfers is James Kianda who has been appointed the new Nairobi Regional Commissioner, replacing Njega. He was previously in charge of the Nyanza region.

Matiang’i has also promoted Magu Mutindika and Esther Maina to the position of regional commissioners.

Mutindika is now the new Nyanza Regional Commissioner while Maina becomes the Western Regional commissioner replacing Ng’etich.

The new changes also saw 98 Deputy County Commissioners transferred to various stations across the country and 84 others appointed new Deputy County Commissioners.
