Michael Olunga’s brace helps Al Duhail bounce back to winning ways
Harambee Stars striker Michael Olunga’s impressive performance in the Qatar Stars League continued as he scored twice in Al Duhail’s 3-1 victory over Al Shamal on Friday at the Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium.
Despite previously struggling in the league campaign with nine consecutive losses, Al Duhail managed to secure a win, though they had dropped in the title race and were holding the sixth position.
Michael Olunga’s tally
Olunga’s two goals in the match brought his tally to four since his return from injury. He had been sidelined since December due to a hamstring injury sustained during an Asian Champions League match against Persepolis.
With these goals, Olunga further solidified his position as the top scorer for Al Duhail, now having scored 12 goals in 18 rounds of the Qatar Stars League.
In the first half, despite Al Duhail‘s clear dominance, the match remained scoreless. However, in the second half, Al Shamal opened the scoring through their player Omid Ibrahim in the 61st minute.
Sahib Janan equalized for Al Duhail in the 69th minute with a shot from inside the penalty area. Then, in the 73rd minute, Michael Olunga put Al Duhail ahead by converting a penalty kick after a foul.

Olunga completed his brace in the 89th minute, capitalizing on an excellent pass from Ismail.
Al Duhail’s overall record this season stands at six wins, four draws, and seven losses. They currently trail league leaders Al Sadd by 18 points.
Olunga is expected to join the Harambee Stars as they begin preparations for the Four Nations Tournament.
