Medics rewarded for handling virus crisis in Machakos county
Healthcare workers operating in isolation centres in Machakos county will get up to Sh20,000 in extra allowances.
Governor Alfred Mutua said yesterday that the move was aimed at motivating them because of their sacrifice in handling the coronavirus pandemic.
Some of the workers to be rewarded are in the coronavirus surveillance team conducting door-to-door monitoring of quarantined patients.
“In recognition of the sacrifice our Machakos county health workers are making at this time of great stress and extra duties due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Machakos County Government has decided to reward them with additional allowances,” he said in statement.
Positive case
This in effect will see other health workers earn an extra allowance of Sh10,000, and Sh5,000 per month. “This will, however, be based on their respective duties,” the Governor stated.
So far, the county has not recorded a single positive case of Covid-19 according to County Executive for Health, Ancent Kituku. This came a few hours after Health CS Mutahi Kagwe announced that one of the new patients hailed from the county. These allowances were effective April 1, 2020 for an initial period of three months.
