Mbale prison inmates receive gifts ahead of Christmas

Inmates from Vihiga County, Mbale prison had a rare gesture after Vihiga Governor Dr Wilber Ottichilo visited them and donated foodstuffs for their Christmas celebrations.

Governor Ottichilo, on December 20, 2025, visited Vihiga Prison in Mbale, where he donated foodstuffs consisting of cooking oil, maize and wheat flours, rice, sugar and milk ahead of Christmas celebrations.

In his remarks, Dr Ottichilo expressed his willingness to partner with the National Government in ensuring the correctional institution realises infrastructural development.

“I visited Vihiga Prison located at Mbale and donated foodstuffs consisting of Cooking Oil, Rice, Wheat Flour, Maize Flour, Sugar, and Milk ahead of Christmas celebrations,” Ottichilo said.

Ottichilo asked for peace, unity and harmony as Kenyans and the World prepare to celebrate Christmas Day on December 25, 2025.

He urged those who are well financially to also help the poor by donating food to them so that they can also enjoy.

He said Christmas is an occasion that comes once a year, and there is a need for everyone to celebrate.

Governor Ottichilo promised to extend his Christmas donation to disadvantaged families and religions as assign of love and caring for them.

“I’m appealing to those who are well to share what they have with those who don’t have this festive season, if Christmas. Let us show love and affection to our fellow Kenyans,” Ottichilo urged.
