Here is what you need to know to keep up to speed with today’s happenings.
Maraga’s town hall meeting
Former Chief Justice David Maraga, who kicked off his tour of Kwale County on May 23, 2025, is expected today, May 25, to conclude his engagements in the region.
Maraga will be in Msambweni and Matuga constituencies, where he is expected to hold a town hall meeting.
He says he has so far engaged Kwale residents on how to reset the country to the rule of law and curtail corruption.
“I appreciate the rich discussions that I have had with residents of Kwale County on many issues. They include on how to reset the country to the rule of law and curtail corruption. Engaging with youth on Friday was particularly insightful. I heard from them of their desire for economic prosperity through job creation. I was inspired by their hope for a Kenya that restores utu and human dignity. I look forward to the Townhall tomorrow,” Maraga said in a statement shared via his official X account on Saturday, May 24, 2025.
A statement dated May 20 by the Maraga ’27 Presidential Campaign Secretariat says the public engagements are part of his consultations on resetting Kenya to the rule of law, rebuilding the economy and restoring dignity and humanity.
“During this visit, he will hold meetings in Matuga and Lunga Lunga constituencies on May 23; Kinango constituency on May 24 and Msambweni and Matuga constituencies on May 25,” the secretariat said.
Rabat Diamond League
Beatrice Chebet and Emmanuel Wanyonyi are among six Olympic champions who will grace the Rabat Diamond League series on Sunday, May 25, 2025.
Letsile Tebogo, Wanyonyi, Chebet, Quincy Hall, Soufiane El Bakkali, and Hamish Kerr will be going for Diamond League glory after shining in Paris nine months ago.
The men’s 800m field is similarly loaded, with Wanyonyi taking on Botswana’s Tshepiso Masalela, the winner in Doha last week; his compatriot Kethobogile Haingura; two-time Commonwealth champion Wyclife Kinyamal; and Olympic finalist Max Burgin.
Following on from her 5000m win in Xiamen last month, Chebet will be challenged by Ejgayehu Taye, who won over 3000m and 5000m at the Grand Slam meeting in Kingston last month. Lemlem Hailu, Olympic silver medallist Nadia Battocletti, and Oceanian record-holder Georgia Griffith will be the other contestants.
Politicians in churches
Political leaders across the country are expected to flock to different churches for worship, and as per the norm, they might take to the pulpit to make various remarks.
The security situation in Kerio Valley is expected to dominate among the opposition-allied figures, with some expected to comment on the situation witnessed in Kakamega when DCP Deputy Party Leader Cleophas Malala attempted to host a rally.
The discussions around Juja MP George Koimburi, who reportedly went missing after an attempted arrest, may also take centre stage.
FKF Cup
Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Cup semi-final matches are set to be played today, Sunday, May 25, 2025, with Gor Mahia expected to clash against Murang’a Seals at Dandora Stadium.
The match comes exactly a week after Gor’s title hopes took a massive hit when they were held to a barren draw in a league match at St Sebastian Park in Murang’a.
In another FKF Cup match Kenya Police will be squaring off with Mara Sugar, who eliminated Compel.
Police who sit top of the league table are looking forward to eliminating Mara Sugar, who are 13th with two games to play.
The winner of the Kenya Police versus Mara match will battle it out in the semi-finals against Nairobi United, who recently earned promotion to the top flight after a 2-1 win over 3K FC on Friday.
