Here is what you need to know to keep up to speed with today’s happenings.
NRM party tour
Uganda’s ruling party, the National Resistance Movement (NRM), led by its Secretary General Richard Todwong, is expected to continue with their benchmarking tour to Kenya.
Senior officials from NRM, including Director of External Affairs Maj (rtd) Awich Pollar Awich and National Leadership Institute Kyankwanzi Col Okei Rukogota, arrived in the country on May 8, 2025, for a four-day official visit at the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party.
The officials are part of a delegation that is in the country at the invitation of the UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar.
The NRM party has so far held various engagements in Nairobi, including meeting Governor Johnson Sakaja on Friday, May 9, 2025.
”Uganda’s ruling party, National Resistance Movement (NRM) Secretary General Rt. Hon Richard Todwong, and Nairobi’s Governor Johnson Sakaja held bilateral talks on Friday afternoon at City Hall, Nairobi.
“Hon. Todwong, who is leading his party’s delegation in a courtesy visit to Kenya on the invitation of the UDA Party, was flanked by UDAA Party members and explored areas of cooperation between their capital, Kampala city, and the Nairobi County Government. Hon. Todwong met with Governor Sakaja together with UDA Party Secretary General Sen. Hassan Omar,” UDA said in a statement shared on Friday, May 9.
World Athletics Relay
The two-day World Athletics Relay Championships in Guangzhou, China, is set to kick off on Saturday, May 10, 2025, with the quartet of Kelvin Kipkorir, Mercy Oketch, David Sanayek, and Mercy Chebet expected to launch Kenya’s medal assault in the 4x400m mixed relay at the event.
The four will descend the Guangdong Olympic Stadium in Heat Four at 2:01pm Kenya time, after putting final touches on their preparations on Friday afternoon, perfecting baton flow and tactics.
They are drawn in lane six against powerhouses the USA, South Africa, Australia, and Nigeria.
Ferdinand Omanyala is among the quartet of team captain Boniface Mweresa, Meshack Babu, and Steve Onyango tasked with hunting glory in the men’s 4x100m squad, competing in Heat Two at 3:03 pm.
Omanyala and co. will be in lane five against giants Jamaica, Germany, Belgium, South Africa, Thailand, and Chinese Taipei.

The women’s 4x400m relay team—featuring Mercy Oketch, Esther Mbagari, Mercy Chebet and Vanice Kerubo — will wrap up Kenya’s Day One campaign in Heat Three at 4:13 pm.
They start from the wide lane nine, against Germany, Jamaica, Poland, Ireland and South Africa.
The World Relays double up as a qualifier for the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, where the top 14 teams will earn automatic tickets, while two additional slots will be awarded based on world rankings.
FKF Premier League
Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League action is set to continue, with four matches scheduled to be played at Dandora Stadium in Nairobi and Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos.
Mathare United will open the Saturday, May 10, 2025, fixture when they host Kakamega Homeboyz in Dandora in a 1:00 pm kickoff.
Sofapaka FC will then face off with Kariobangi Sharks at the same venue in a 4:00 pm kickoff.
At Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos, Posta Rangers will be facing off with Bidco United in a 1:00 pm kickoff, with Tusker FC expected to clash with Murang’a Seal at the same venue in a 4:00 pm kickoff.
