Matiang’i makes silent inroads in Kajiado, meets Senator Seki
Former interior cabinet secretary Fred Matiang’i has, on Monday, September 8, 2025, been spotted with Kajiado senator Seki Lenku Ole Kanar as part of his ongoing engagements as he eyes the 2027 presidential seat.
The two were spotted having light moments together as they engaged in deep conversations. Senator Seki, for the recent past, has established himself as an ally of the former deputy president, Rigathi Gachagua, and his DCP party and, on one occasion, even led a delegation from the Maa community, particularly Kajiado County, to Gachagua’s Wamunyoro home and assured Gachagua of Maa support.
Later on, Matiangi joined his fellow united opposition principals, who met today at an unknown place to deliberate on key issues of their coalition as they move into 2027 and to make sure that they settle on one of them who will face off against the president, who will be seeking his second term.
The team met to suggest a name for their coalition, among other things. The team has been busy for the recent past, meeting after another; they recently met and appointed former UNCTAD chair Mukhisa Kituyi to be their spokesperson and head of the secretariat, a move that DCP deputy party leader Clephas Malala came out to protest heavily, arguing that the slot could have been given to a person who is younger, fuelling speculations of a possible fallout.

His party boss Gachagua, came out publicly to cool down Malala, stating that even if the coalition is looking into tapping into the input of the young generation, it also requires the experience of the older generation, who have been in the political scene for a while, to lead and guide the young Turks.
He stated that he had taken time and convinced Malala of the move by the united opposition to settle on Mukhisa.
Malala, on his part, came out to soften his stance, saying that he had been advised by his party leader and agreed with the suggestion to have Mukhisa as the head of the secretariat.
Gachagua has also advised his Mt Kenya backyard to support the candidate who will be unveiled by the united opposition, since they have all agreed that they will settle on one person who will be the team’s flag bearer.
