Matiang’i: I’m not aware of any plans to rig presidential election
Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i now says he is not aware of any plans to interfere with the August 9 general election.
Matiang’i said those who are claiming the election will be stolen have not substantiated how that will be done.
“Kenyans and we in government are treating them with the contempt they deserve.
“It is the usual nonsense and paranoia by politicians,” Matiang’i said when he appeared on a local television station on Sunday evening.
The CS termed the claims as wild and are “common” with Kenyan politicians.
“A lot of our political leaders often make very irresponsible statements that they cannot substantiate.
“People run around saying all manner of things. The public are getting weary and I’m happy that they are now giving the remarks by politicians the contempt they deserve,” he added.
Matiang’i said police officers will always act according to the law and no politician will receive a favourable treatment.
“The National Police Service is very independent. I can’t even direct the Inspector General to act in a certain way,” he said.
