Matiang’i dismisses disunity claims within United Opposition
Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has dismissed claims of disunity within the United Opposition, terming them an agenda being propagated by the state.
Speaking during an interview with a local TV station on Monday, December 22, 2025, the Jubilee deputy party leader stated that the United Opposition is firmly united and that there are no elements of disunity within the coalition.
Addressing reports of separate factions within the United Opposition holding meetings independently, Matiang’i said such gatherings should not be perceived as signs of disunity.
According to him, this is the appropriate time for coalition members to engage with one another in order to bond, noting that many of them have not previously worked together. He explained that such interactions are necessary for team building and for strengthening relationships within the coalition.
He further dismissed claims of factions or splinter groups within the United Opposition, affirming that the coalition remains solid and intact.

Matiang’i expressed disappointment that the state was investing resources in what he described as propaganda aimed at creating rifts within the United Opposition, adding that such attempts would not succeed.
“Mimi sijaona serikali ambayo inatumia budget yake mingi kwa porojo kama hii serikali.” Matiangi stated
He cited recent examples to demonstrate unity within the coalition, including his visit to the home of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua during the installation of Gachagua’s wife as a Reverend, as well as his visit to Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka at his Yatta home. He said these engagements were part of ongoing coalition-building efforts and showed that there was no disunity.
“Hakuna mirengo kwa upinzani, ni porojo tu na dhana ya watu. Sisi wote tuko na urafiki; wakati mwingine utatuona tuko na Kalonzo, wakati mwingine na Gachagua, na natembeya na wale wengine, tunaendelea mbele,” Matiang’i said.
Past rift claims
Claims of rifts within the United Opposition have persisted for several days, prompting the former Deputy President to state that the coalition does not understand the Jubilee Party.

According to him, Jubilee’s participation in the recently concluded by-elections was minimal, with some of its candidates stepping down to support rival candidates, most of whom were fronted by the government.

This also comes after he held high-level talks with the Trans Nzoia governor at his office amid ongoing speculations of a rift within the opposition.
