Matiang’i attends university lecturers’ meeting in Machakos
By Arnold Ngure, September 5, 2025Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i on Friday, September 5, 2025, joined a university lecturers’ meeting in Yatta in Machakos County.
In a statement, Matiang’i indicated that the forum deliberated on education matters, leadership, and the political future of Kenya.
“I have this afternoon joined Hon. Kalonzo Musyoka at the University Dons Forum in Kithimani, Yatta Constituency. The forum has offered a timely platform for reflection on education, leadership, and the future of our country,” Matiang’i remarked.
Leaders present
A former don himself, Matiang’i was joined at the meeting by former Public Service CS Justin Muturi, United Opposition spokesperson Mukhisa Kituyi, Kitui Central MP Makali Mulu, Bomachoge Borabu MP Obadiah Barongo, and James Magara.

Before his rise to prominence as a no-nonsense Cabinet Secretary in the Kenyan government, Matiang’i established a solid academic foundation.
This earlier phase of his life, while less publicized, was instrumental in shaping the persona of the ‘super CS’ who would later become known for his radical reforms in public service.
Matiang’i’s days as a don
His journey began with a strong educational background, culminating in a Ph.D. in Communication and Comparative Literature from the University of Nairobi.
Matiang’i’s teaching career saw him lecture at prestigious institutions, including Egerton University and the University of Nairobi.
During this period, he was not only an educator but also a researcher and program implementer. His work extended beyond the classroom, as he held positions in various civil society organizations in Kenya.

Following the expiry of former President Uhuru Kenyatta’s term in 2022, Matiang’i took on an international role before returning to the country earlier in 2025 to focus on his presidential bid in 2027.
While the former CS has yet to identify with a political party to further his ambitions of becoming president, he has been associated with the Jubilee Party and the United Progressive Alliance Party, which have both endorsed him for the presidency.
However, Matiang’i maintains that extensive consultations have to be carried out before the United Opposition settles on a single presidential candidate.
The strength of the United Opposition lies in its ability to stay united as a potential challenge for President William Ruto, who has teamed up with ODM Party leader Raila Odinga.
