Maryanne Kirubi’s father-in-law dies at 87
The father-in-law to Maryanne Kirubi who is daughter to the late businessman Chris Kirubi is dead.
Richard Musangi, 87, who is a renowned scholar and Chancellor at Kabianga University died on Saturday, August 28.
His death comes barely three months after the death of Chris Kirubi who died following a long illness.
He was appointed to the position by former President Mwai Kibaki.
He has served in the position since March 1, 2013, when the university was given a charter.
The celebrated farmer who hugely invested in Transzoia County leaves a vast amount of academic experiences which include; being the pioneer vice-chancellor of Egerton University just days after he left the University of Nairobi.
Before he started teaching in Kenya Universities he was a lecturer at Makerere University in Uganda.
The late professor was born in Milo, Bungoma County.
He started in Kakamega Secondary School between 1950 to 1956 and later Makerere University later he moved to London where he earned Masters in Agriculture in 1964.
He sat in various Boards and Committees which include; Food and Agriculture Organisation, Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC), International Agricultural Research of the World Bank and Kenya Forest Service.
A number of politicians eulogized the late professor.
Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader Musalia Mudavadi said that the deceased will be remembered as a renowned educationist, scholar and accomplished administrator.
“He was a distinguished Chancellor, University of Kabianga; and Pioneer Vice-Chancellor of Egerton University. May God comforts and guide the family at this time of mourning,” Mudavadi said.
Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula said: “Prayers to Mama Regina, Andrew and Family.”
