Here is what you need to know to keep up to speed with today’s happenings.
Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations continue nationwide
Muslims across Kenya are continuing their Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations today as the government gazetted Monday, March 31, 2025, as a public holiday to mark the end of Ramadan.
The celebrations began on Sunday, March 30, 2025, when many Kenyan Muslims joined their global counterparts following Saudi Arabia’s announcement of the moon sighting, despite Chief Kadhi not yet officially confirming it locally.
In Mombasa, thousands gathered at Ronald Ngala grounds for prayers led by Mining and Blue Economy Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho who urged unity and peace in the country.
In Nairobi County, large crowds of Muslims came together for morning prayers at various locations, including Jamia Mosque and the Sir Ali Masjid grounds, to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr.
In Eastleigh, Kamukunji Member of Parliament Yusuf Hassan, Somalia’s Ambassador to Kenya Jabril Ibrahim Abdulle, and Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja joined hundreds of worshippers for prayers at the Business Bay Square Mall.

The festive atmosphere extended beyond prayers, as families and friends came together for meals and leisure activities.
Major cities such as Nairobi and Mombasa experienced increased traffic as people flocked to entertainment venues.
Kenya is home to approximately 5.6 million Muslims, according to the 2019 census, part of the world’s 1.9 billion Muslim population.
Mixed weather patterns across the country
The Meteorological Department forecasts varied weather conditions across Kenya today, with several regions expected to experience afternoon showers and thunderstorms.
In the Highlands West of the Rift Valley and Lake Victoria Basin, residents can expect sunny intervals in the morning, followed by showers and thunderstorms over a few places in the afternoon, with maximum temperatures reaching 30°C and minimum temperatures of 10°C.
Northwestern counties (Turkana and Samburu) will experience some of the highest temperatures in the country, with maximums of 37°C and minimums of 9°C, alongside a chance of morning rains and afternoon thunderstorms.

The Highlands East of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi County, will see a chance of morning rains, afternoon showers and thunderstorms, with maximum temperatures of 28°C.
North-eastern counties will experience the highest temperatures nationwide, with maximums reaching 38°C, while morning rains and afternoon thunderstorms are expected.
The Coastal region will remain relatively dry with sunny intervals throughout the day and partly cloudy conditions at night, with temperatures ranging from 23°C to 36°C.
Final preparations for Ruto’s critical Mt Kenya tour
Final touches are in full swing for President William Ruto’s weeklong tour of the Mt Kenya region set to begin tomorrow, April 1, 2025, and continue until April 5, 2025, his first since the impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua in October last year.
According to the official itinerary, the tour will focus on development projects, including the launch of AFD/EU/EIB-funded initiatives and the commissioning of last-mile electrification programs.

His tour will kick off in Laikipia and Nyeri counties on April 1, 2025, moving to Meru and Kirinyaga on April 2, 2025.
On April 3, 2025, he will visit Nyandarua and Murang’a, followed by Tharaka Nithi and Embu counties on April 4, 2025.
The final day, April 5, 2025, will see him return to Nyeri and Kiambu.
