Manyatta MP seeks to move bill to review NG-CDF law

Manyatta Member of Parliament (MP) Gitonga Mukunji has stated that he is preparing a bill to review the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) law.
Speaking when he was dispatching Ksh36 Million cheques for bursaries in the constituencies, Mukunji stated that the law has not been fair to constituencies in terms of allocation. He observed that only the one man one shilling formula will address the gap that has been there in terms of allocation.
The first term MP noted that there were constituencies which had a big population yet they received the same allocation as those which are not highly populated.
“We cannot have a constituency with 170 schools with a population of 20,000 students and another constituency with 1,000 students allocated the same amount. I am considering moving a bill to change NG-CDF law to have one man one shilling,”Mukunji stated.
The MP promised to lobby other parliamentarians to back the bill so that there can be equity in sharing the CDF fund.
About 7,793 needy students have benefited from Ksh36 million Manyatta National Government Constituency Development Fund bursaries to support their education.
The funds were issued to students in Tertiary institutions and Secondary schools in the constituency.
Mukunji affirmed his plan to see all students acquire education to better their future lives.
“Our agenda for education is unmeasurable, our priority is to see needy students in a position to learn,” he said.
Mukunji stated that the bursary that he has disbursed is just a drop in the ocean especially considering the tough economic times being witnessed in the country.
He said that the bursaries were allocated with the highest transparency and the cheques had been allocated to deserving students.
School principals and parents said the disbursement is a major boost to students retention.
