Man tells court lover among tormentors
A man yesterday recounted in court how he was stripped naked and tortured by five people, among them a woman he had met as a lover on social media, who demanded a Sh3 million ransom from his father.
In his evidence, Naveed Abdul Aziz told trial Magistrate Geoffrey Onsarigo that he was left for dead by his attackers as they demanded money from his father in order to set him free.
He said that he had been set up by one of the accused persons namely Vigilance Mumbi, with whom he had been chatting for the last three months. Mumbi had presented herself to the witness as Jackie, the court heard.
Ordered me
Naveed, who is a car mechanic, recalled that on May 25, 2022, he received a call from “Jackie” inviting him to visit her at her third-floor apartment near Naivas supermarket, Ruaraka branch. “I decided to go down and buy some cigarettes. On the way I met one of the accused who ordered me to go back to the house pick my belongings and leave immediately,” said Naveed.
He said that when he went back, he was attacked by two other suspects, namely Patrick Wekesa Omosa and Rehema Njeri Ong’ai, with the former claiming that “Jackie” was his wife. He stated that he was overpowered by the suspects, and ordered to call his father and demand Sh3 million, failure to which they would kill him. He said that they stripped him naked and recorded him using their phones, threatening to harm and expose him if he did not heed to their demands.
He was saved by DCI officers from Parklands police station who arrived at the house as the five were packing their belongings ready to flee.
