Kakamega senator Cleophas Malalah has petitioned the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission to investigate the Kakamega County Government and County Assembly for alleged misuse of public funds.

In the letter dated April 19, which is copied to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations and the Auditor General, Malalah wants a forensic audit of the Mumias Sugar Company Sh200 million cane development fund, the Sh200 million County Assembly car loans and mortgage fund and tender awards.

He is also asking the State agencies to investigate alleged irregular withdrawal of over Sh40 million from the County Assembly car and mortgage revolving fund by the county government leadership.

Malalah claims the Oparanya administration made suspicious cash withdrawals from the mortgage fund account at the Family Bank, Kakamega branch in 2017.

He observed that the Mumias Sugar cane development revolving fund had remained dysfunctional, five years after it was established by the County Assembly.

“I request your office to investigate if the money deposited in the said account at the Co-operative Bank, Kakamega branch is still available and if not where the money disappeared to,” the letter reads in part.
