Professor Makau Mutua has praised former President Uhuru Kenyatta for speaking openly about his health challenges, urging Kenyans to extend support and goodwill to the former Head of State.

“I was very moved by the candor with which former President Uhuru Kenyatta spoke about the fragility of the human body and his own health. Let’s wish him full strength and a long life. It shall be well, your Excellency,” Mutua wrote in a message posted on his X account on Saturday, November 1, 2025.

Mutua’s message came after Uhuru spoke warmly about his late friend Frank Ireri during a memorial service on Friday, October 31, 2025. In an emotional reflection, Uhuru shared that Ireri had been a pillar of strength over the past year.

“I do not know whether I should say this, but these are realities of life. In the last year, and a good part of this year, whenever we met, he was very encouraging about some of the challenges that we were going through. And since he had more experience than some of us, he was very encouraging in guiding and telling you how to look at this and how to handle some of these challenges in life, health, and otherwise,” he said.

He recalled Ireri’s support and comfort during difficult moments:

“He really held our hands and told us not to worry, things will come to pass, it will go. We trust in God, we believe…”

Uhuru’s message of faith

Uhuru added that he and others continue to face their challenges with courage and faith.

“Those of us who have those challenges will continue fighting with them, but equally, when it is God’s time, we shall join him, and be thankful for the life we lived and the time we shared together.”

In recent months, Uhuru has made several public appearances looking strong and in high spirits. He led the Jubilee National Delegates Conference and engaged actively with party members, delivering spirited remarks and calling for unity.

He also played a central role in the final journey of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga. The former president has continued to meet leaders, friends, and supporters in recent weeks, appearing cheerful and interacting warmly.

His recent engagements have reassured many Kenyans who have welcomed his openness and humility. Kenyans online shared prayers and positive wishes for Uhuru, expressing admiration for his strength, optimism, and continued commitment to national unity.
