Defender of people living with disabilities (PWDs), Mike Makarina, has come out to urge Deputy President Kithure Kindiki to intervene and help return former Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) boss George Kinoti.

In a statement posted on his social media pages on Thursday, December 25, 2025, According to Makarina, just like the Deputy President, who showed goodwill to his neighbours by giving out gifts at his home in Irundini, Tharaka Nithi County, on December 24, 2025, where large crowds flocked his rural residence.

He should extend the same goodwill to the former DCI boss, who was dismissed following the entry of the Kenya Kwanza government.

According to Makarina, Kinoti has not received his benefits yet since he exited the helm of DCI.

He further stated that Buuri MP Mugambi Rindikiri should not hold the Deputy President hostage by claiming that if Kinoti is given his benefits or brought back into government, he would pose a threat to his political career.

Makarina urged Kindiki to ignore such MPs and remember that he needs support and votes from all Kenyans, including those who have not taken political sides. He added that helping Kinoti would touch the hearts of the Meru people.

“Now my concern of the year is, even as you show a good gesture to your neighbours, extend the same gesture and brotherhood to former DCI boss George Kinoti and allow him to get his benefits.”

“Buuri MP Mugambi Rindikiri should not hold you hostage, telling you if Kinoti is given his benefits or brought back to the government, he will be a threat to his political career,” Makarina stated.

Kinoti post-interdiction

George Kinoti, a popular figure in the previous regime, initially stated that he had resigned from the helm of the DCI office.

However, President William Ruto later revealed during an interview with media stations at State House that Kinoti had been fired due to the extrajudicial killings that were witnessed during the past regime.

Since his exit from the high-profile office, Kinoti has maintained a low profile. He had previously been at loggerheads with the current regime when it was in opposition. He has only made a few public appearances since then, with the most notable being in 2023 when he was spotted at the Supreme Court during his son’s admission to the Bar.

He also reminded the Deputy President that people living with disabilities are his responsibility as well and deserve to be supported, especially during the Christmas season.

He noted that persons with disabilities should not be viewed as belonging to any individual, saying that they are all Kenyans who deserve equal care and attention.

Makarina added that many people living with disabilities cannot afford basic food items such as flour for chapati and urged leaders to remember them during the festive season.
