Universities and other institutions of higher learning will not be opened in September as had earlier been announced.

Instead, the students will cool off their heels at home until January 2021, amid the worsening COVID-19 situation in the country.

This was announced by the Education Cabinet Secretary, Prof George Magoha on Thursday, July 30.

However, Prof Magoha said colleges can still continue with virtual learning in adherence with standards set by the Commission for University Education.

“Priority should be given to final year students to ensure they can graduate. So far, Dedan Kimathi University and Riara University have held virtual graduations. Egerton University is also set to hold virtual graduation on 31st July 2020 while the University of Nairobi is set to hold virtual graduation on 25th September 2020,” said CS Magoha.
