Lobby group backs Raila- Kenneth proposed pact
A lobby group claiming to be pro-President Uhuru Kenyatta has urged leaders from Mt Kenya region to back a proposed political pact between Opposition Raila Odinga and former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth in 2022.
Officials of the Mt Kenya Caucus led by chairman Linford Mutembei, yesterday said Raila has demonstrated his interest for the nation while Kenneth was development-oriented and a unifying figure.
According to Mutembei, Uhuru and Raila allies have been working on a possible alliance involving the two leaders and the two could be on the presidential race in 2022.
“Raila commands a huge constituency despite the fact that he hasn’t said whether he will seek the presidency or not, the Mt Kenya community should embrace him if he does because by helping Uhuru unite the county, creating a good opportunity for implementation of Big Four Agenda and backing the fight against corruption, he has shown that he has the interest of the country at heart, “ he said.
On the other hand, Mutembei said during his tenure as MP for Gatundu, Kenneth had proven his ability to steer development and carved a niche as a non-controversial leader.
Mutembei told off Mt Kenya leaders allied to Deputy President William Ruto, who he said were fighting Kenneth over the region’s succession politics and the looming super alliance, saying they were being driven by jealousy.
Recently, Kenneth and Raila were sighted together with Jubilee Party vice chairman David Murathe and ODM stalwarts.
A series of meetings have been happening at trade unionist’s Francis Atwoli’s Kajiado home and they are seen as a bid to have Raila, Kenneth, former vice president Kalonzo Musyoka, Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho and Baringo Senator Gideon Moi work together.
