Deputy President William Ruto held a meeting with Members of Parliament allied to the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) on Thursday, August 5 at his Karen residence in Nairobi.

In what Ruto and his allies described as a Parliamentary Group meeting, the DP was flunked by his key political lieutenants from Central Kenya, Rift Valley and the rest of the country.

“Held the Hustler Nation Parliamentary Group Meeting attended by more than 135 MPs and addressed the country on the desire for a people-centered conversation, Karen, Nairobi County,” DP Ruto tweeted on Thursday.

However, missing in action was Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria and Tharaka Nithi Senator Kithure Kindiki who form part of Ruto’s key support.

During the meeting, questions were raised about Kuria’s absence with Garisa Town MP stating that George Koimburi, the only MP elected on the ticket of Peoples Empowerment Party (PEP) that is associated with Kuria was present.

However, Moses Kuria dismissed and termed a message making rounds online as fake which alleged that he skipped the PG over remarks the DP made on Wednesday, August 5 during in an interview with a local radio station.

“I have seen people asking why I didn’t attend the PG meeting. In the first place, was it necessary? My party is CCK not UDA,” the fake message making rounds online read.

Some of the UDA allied MPs present at the PG were Garisa Town MP Aden Duale, Kandara MP Alice Wahome, Mumias West’s Benjamin Washiali, Malindi’s Aisha Jumwa, Uasin Gishu Woman Rep Glady’s Shollei and Soy MP Caleb Kossitany among others.

During the PG, DP Ruto drummed up support for his economic recovery model plan, bottom-up economy, citing it as the best way to create jobs for the more than 7 million unemployed Kenyan youth.

“The bottom-up, middle-out model has the power to turn millions of Kenyans at the base of the wealth pyramid into active and meaningful participants in the economy,” the DP said.

“We will keep sponsoring and supporting legislation and policies that entrench the objectives of this new approach for the long-term growth and transformation of our country,” Ruto added.
