List of areas to be affected by planned power maintenance on Saturday
Residents and businesses in parts of Nyamira County will experience a full-day electricity interruption on Saturday, March 14, 2026, following a scheduled maintenance exercise by Kenya Power.
In a public notice issued on March 13, 2026, the national electricity distributor announced that the planned power maintenance will take place from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm in sections of the South Nyanza Region.
The outage will affect Nyamira Town and the surrounding areas as technicians carry out network maintenance aimed at improving the reliability of the electricity supply.
Affected areas
According to the notice shared through Kenya Power’s official X account, areas expected to be affected include Nyamira Town and Nyamira Hospital, Kinara Hospital, Rang’enyo, Nyamaiya Market, Bonyunyu, Miruka Market and adjacent customers.
“Good evening. The listed areas will be under planned power maintenance tomorrow (14th March 2026). We regret any inconvenience that may be caused during the operations,” the company said in the notice while directing customers to its website for more details.
Planned outages are regularly carried out by the utility to facilitate upgrades, repairs and maintenance of the electricity distribution network.
Maintenance and infrastructure upgrades
Kenya Power has maintained that such scheduled interruptions are necessary to improve the stability of the national grid and reduce the likelihood of unexpected outages.

The maintenance exercise comes as the company continues to invest in strengthening the transmission and distribution network across the country.
The company has also noted that upgrading ageing equipment and expanding the network is critical to meet growing electricity demand from households, institutions and businesses.
Recent concerns over electricity tokens
The maintenance notice also comes amid ongoing discussions around electricity costs and token purchases by consumers.
Earlier this week, Kenya Power Chief Executive Officer Joseph Siror addressed customer concerns about purchasing electricity tokens but receiving fewer units than before.
Siror explained that the number of units received depends on household consumption levels and the applicable tariff category. Low-consumption households often benefit from the subsidised lifeline tariff, where electricity costs between Ksh12 and Ksh16 per unit including taxes.
He also noted that up to 20 percent of a token purchase may automatically go toward clearing outstanding arrears, which can reduce the number of units received.
Kenya Power has advised customers in the affected Nyamira areas to plan accordingly during the scheduled maintenance period as technicians carry out the works aimed at improving power reliability.
