Legislator urges church to hold State accountable on public resources

Khwisero MP Christopher Wangaya Aseka has urged the clergy to be more proactive in keeping the government and political leaders accountable.

Aseka said the church should not abdicate its role of ensuring proper utilisation of public resources.
“Church leaders played a critical role in securing independence of this nation and the second liberation thereafter. I, thus, plead that the steam should not die down,” he added.

The legislator was speaking at St John’s ACK Church, Mukhombe Parish in Kisa West Ward of his constituency when he joined the faithful for a service on Sunday.

He pointed out that the church played a key role in ensuring that there was peace and tranquillity in the country. “Politicians are human beings and prone to mistakes just like anybody else but if you always remind us to serve our people diligently then we shall minimise vices such as corruption,” he told the congregation.

He said he had held a meeting with the Khwisero Christian and Muslim Women Association last week during which they agreed to continue working together towards their spiritual and socio-economic empowerment.

Aseka said he was committed to developing all parts of Khwisero without segregation.
He urged leaders from the Constituency and entire Kakamega County to work together so as to realise development for their people.
