A Member of Parliament (MP) from Kisii County has appealed to the government to ensure families of children allegedly killed by police during Gen Z protests which rocked the country in July get justice

Bobasi lawmaker, Innocent Obiri noted it was wrong and unacceptable for security officers to kill innocent and unarmed children protesting against poor leadership.

He noted police officers who shot and killed the youths were known and challenged the government to take action to deter others.

“It is shocking that the government has not reached out to the affected families and ensure they get justice,” Obiri told the Press, adding the families are yet to come to terms after

The MP noted Kenyans have the right to demonstrate and picket peacefully as enshrined in the constitution, stressing it was wrong for the police to use excessive force to disperse and kill the protesters.

Protesters stated the lawmakers had phones and flags as they protested across the country against the national government and were peaceful.

“It is the duty of the government to offer security to protesters and protect properties. Nobody has a right to kill protesters. It is against the constitution.

Meanwhile, he has appealed to the government to shun being preoccupied with the impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and instead focus on addressing the plight of the majority of poor Kenyans.
