‘Leave Tanzania alone’ – Beatrice Elachi appeals to Kenyans to end feud with neighbours
By Luke Oluoch, September 10, 2025Dagoretti North Member of Parliament (MP) Beatrice Elachi has implored Kenyans to tone down on the ongoing feud with neighbouring Tanzania and let the East African nation be.
In a passionate appeal on live TV on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, the legislator stated that the country was running the risk of economic and labour-mobility ramifications, with Kenyans employed in neighbouring nations mulling over a return home due to harsh conditions.
“I know we have done a lot, but Kenyans in Tanzania are going through a lot. I want to plead to Kenyans, let us leave Tanzania alone; it is their country. It is not right; let us tone down on Tanzania,” she stated.

“Right now we are told even our maize cannot leave through Namanga, and also our business. Our teachers are soon coming back, and do we have jobs for them?” she posed.
Her remarks come as the long-held online feud pitting the two nations, mainly spearheaded by Kenyan Gen Zs, was recently rekindled through football banter during the 2024 African Nations Championship games.
Kenya-Tanzania feud
Interestingly, it got a new twist as Kenyan leaders climbed the bandwagon to poke fun at Tanzania following their elimination from the African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024.
Following Taifa Stars’ exit at the continental games in Dar es Salaam on Friday, August 22, 2025, Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen and the Nairobi Women Representative were among the leaders who jibed the nation following their heartbreaking defeat.
Passaris led the charge, mocking Tanzania’s performance with a cheeky post on X (formerly Twitter), quoting Tanzanian music star Mbosso’s Pawa hit lyrics.
“Pawa pawa… naishiwa pawa!” Majirani zetu wa Tanzania wamejikuta wakikosa nguvu kabisa mbele ya Morocco. Viumbe dhaifu walioshindwa kufika penalty! Simba kageuzwa paka. Majirani hoyee? Upepo wa bahari unawapelekaje?” Passaris stated.
Her remarks, laced with humour, drew mixed reactions online, with some Kenyans joining in the banter while others cautioned against mocking fellow East Africans.

Murkomen was not left behind. The ardent football lover also joined the conversation, posting a more subtle jibe via his official X account.
“Pole Jirani. Tuko pamoja kwa msimu huu!” Murkomen stated.
The Kenya–Tanzania football banter has become a hallmark of regional sports rivalry with Benni McCarthy on Tuesday, September 10, 2025, proposing a friendly clash between the teams to settle the scores.
