Late MP Muchai case: Man convicted with woman he denied was his wife
By Zipporah Ngwatu, March 13, 2026Despite Eric Isabwa, the first suspect in the murder of former Kabete Member of Parliament (MP) George Muchai, denying knowing Margaret Njeri Wachiuri, the lower court has convicted the two of unlawfully being in possession of firearms.
Margaret Njeri Wachiuri was the sixth accused person in the murder of the former Kabete MP, but the High Court acquitted her of the charges at the end of 2025.
The court sitting on Friday, March 13, 2026, found Isabwa and Njeri guilty of being in possession of a firearms certificate contrary to section 4(2)(a) as read with sections 4(a)(b) of the Firearms Act, Cap. 114, Laws of Kenya.
The particulars of the offence state that the two were unlawfully found in possession of a G3 rifle without a firearms certificate on February 13, 2015, while at Area 67 Kinoo within Kiambu County.
They have also been found guilty of being in possession of seven rounds of 7.62 millimetre calibre ammunition without a firearms certificate on the same date and in the same area.

Denying marriage links
The conviction in the lower court case comes three days after Isabwa, popularly known as Chairman, in his defence before High Court Judge Kanyi Kimondo, denied the allegation that Njeri was his wife.
He further denied that he was arrested together with Njeri on February 13, 2015, from a house in Kinoo within Kiambu County.
“Kuna fununu zimeenezwa hapa kotini kwamba yeye ni mke wako,” Isabwa’s lawyer asked him.
In his response, Isabwa said that “ndio zimeenezwa na ma officers.”
“Mheshimiwa jambo la kwanza huyu Margaret simfahamu,” Isabwa added.
Isabwa vehemently denied officer Singila’s testimony that Njeri had been hiding him in her house in Kinoo.
According to Officer Singila’s testimony, when they knocked at Njeri’s door, upon opening the door, they asked her who Isabwa was to her.
The court heard that Njeri stammered a bit before responding that he was her husband.
In his defence on how he is not her husband and does not know her, Isabwa averred that not even a marriage certificate has been availed in court as an exhibit to confirm their marriage status as claimed.
“Mheshimiwa huyu Margaret hakuna statement ameandikisha kusema mimi ni bwana yake; hakuna cheti chochote cha marriage kimeletwa mbele ya hii koti ku confirm mimi ni bwanake ama yeye ni bibi yangu,” Isabwa submitted to the court.
In addition, he told the court that no neighbour, landlord or Nyumba Kumi officer from Kinoo has been brought in as a witness to confirm that he was indeed Njeri’s husband and whether he was indeed arrested in her house.
“Mheshimiwa, hakuna landlord ama nyumba kumi officer ameletwa kotini kudhibitisha mimi ni bwanake ama nilikushikiwa kwa nyumba yake,” Isabwa added.
