Juja: KWS capture second hyena after series of attacks
Kenya Wildlife Services‘ Ondoa Fisi operation recorded another success after they captured a second hyena that has been terrorising residents in Juja Sub-County in Kiambu County.
KWS launched the operation after the residents complained of being terrorised by the wild animals. The recently captured hyena was found at Kimincha Farm.
“The ongoing KWS operation, Ondoa FISI, in Juja Sub County managed to capture the second hyena, marking the second capture in less than a week.
“The capture was achieved using a predator animal trap that had been set in the area. The captured hyena, a sub-adult of approximately 4 years of age, was found at Kimincha Farm in Juja, Kiambu County,” KWS said in a statement.
KWS also revealed how they have been carrying out their operations and where the captured animals will be taken.
“Since the launch of the operation, the Kenya Wildlife Service has deployed four predator traps in the area and established three mobile teams to enhance safety and security.
“Plans are underway to translocate the captured hyena to a national park, away from settled areas,” it concluded.
On December 7, a meeting was convened by area Member of Parliament George Koimburi at Nyacaba, Witeithia, Maraba, and Kabati following the deaths of two people: a nine-year-old boy and a middle-aged woman who were attacked and plagued to death by the wild.
