Kuria warns public servants against laxity
Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, Performance and Delivery Management Moses Kuria yesterday issued a stern warning against laxity in State instittutions.
Kuria who spoke in Nakuru while marking 10 years of Huduma Kenya and Huduma Centres said the government would not be soft on such officers.
“Some public service officers do not demonstrate any form of readiness to serve Kenyans. Their focus is on being paid. We shall not have space for you,” said Kuria.
The Minister challenged all public servaants to borrow a leaf from p[erations of Huduma Centres and steer away from the old ways of service delivery at their own pleasure.
“We want all government offices to be like Huduma Centers where Kenyans are welcomed and treated with respect and urgency. Anyone lazing around should be ready to face the sack,” said Kuria.
Serve with diligence
Kuria said that public officers should serve with diligence noting that a few people not willing to change their perspective of holding public offices were giving the government a bad name.
“The people you serve are the people who pay taxes to pay your salaries. As your employer, they deserve all the respect, quality and timely services from you,” he said.
He added that the government intends to bring services closer to the people by establishing more Huduma Centres across the country.
“Virtually all counties have one Huduma Centre each. We want to have one Huduma Centres in all the constituencies for effective and easier service delivery,” he said.
To achieve this, the national government will collaborate with the counties and Members of Parliament (MPs) to identify locations and raise funding for their establishment.
“We have agreed to set up the first Huduma Mashinani centre in Molo constituency in collaboration with the area MP. In three weeks, I shall meet all MPs to see how we can co-fund the construction of these centres alongside the county governments,” said Kuria.
