KNEC sets deadline for 2025 national exams projects

The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) has uploaded projects and performance tasks ahead of the national examination set to be administered late in 2025.
In the notice on Monday, May 12, 2025, KNEC announced that the tasks target Grades 3, 7, and 8. Learners eligible to sit the 2025 Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) will also be expected to do their projects.
“The projects and performance tasks for Grades 3, 7, and 8, stage-based pathway, and KJSEA have been uploaded on the Competency Based Assessment (CBA) portal (https//cba.knec.ac.ke) for access by schools,” the notice read in part.
Instructions
Schools will be expected to administer the projects and performance tasks and upload scores of all learners on the CBA portal within the stipulated timeframe.
According to the examination council, teachers will assess the learners as they undertake the tasks and score them using the guidelines provided.
Additionally, headteachers are required to keep all records and evidence generated from the assessments.

Deadline
For learners sitting for the stage-based pathway, the projects are expected to be submitted by July 31, 2025.
For KJEA projects, learners have up to August 30, 2025, to ensure their scores are uploaded to the portal as detailed by KNEC.
“The schools are expected to administer the projects and performance tasks and upload scores of all learners on the portal within stipulated timeframes as follows: Grades 3, 7 & 8 and stage-based pathway – by July 31, 2025, and KJSEA projects – by August 30, 2025.
Failure to upload the scores for the projects within the stipulated times would attract a fine of Ksh500 per candidate.
“A penalty of Kshs 500 per candidate will be imposed for any KJSEA project uploads made after the specified date,” KNEC insisted.
