The opposition party at the County Assembly of Kitui, Narc has come out to strongly oppose an impeachment motion fronted against the county minister for Finance, Economic Planning and Revenue Management Peter Kilonzo.

Curiously, the motion was moved by a majority Wiper party MCA for Kiomo/ Kyethani Ward Antony Musyoka last week. The motion which cites gross misconduct, incompetence and abuse of office on the part of the CEC-M was adopted by a simple majority vote and is set for debate this coming Wednesday.

The Narc party, through its Minority Leader Alex Nganga who is also the Miambani Ward MCA, has described the impeachment motion as a political tactic to blackmail governor Julius Malombe who was elected on a Wiper party.

The stance by the Narc party is an indication of how unpopular the impeachment motion is, with majority of Kitui residents urging governor Malombe not to give in to blackmail and intimidation from rogue elements at the assembly.

Distabilise government

Speaking at a funeral over the weekend, Nganga cautioned the Wiper MCAs against working to destabilize the Wiper county government for selfish motives. He said it was even more saddening that the Wiper MCAs had defied the party’s directive, issued by the party’s secretary general Shakilla Abdallah last week, not to debate or vote on the impeachment motion which the party described as ill timed.

“When Kalonzo is looking for the presidency, and those of us from the opposition are supporting him, it is sad that his MCAs are engaged in political wrangles and fighting his county government.

They must be called to order,” Nganga said, adding that governor Malombe had so far proved his commitment to service delivery and needed to be supported. His Minority Party Whip Sylvester Munyalo (Matinyani MCA) yesterday said that he will mobilize the Narc MCAs,  alongside others to defeat the motion on Wednesday.
