Kisumu UDA branch officials appeal youth to end protests
United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party officials in Kisumu County have lauded President William Ruto for nominating new people to his Cabinet.
Led by county UDA chairman Erick Osenya (pictured seated centre), they said the President’s decision to disband and reconstitute his Cabinet demonstrated that he had listened to young people in their push for a better-governed society.
The President’s decisive action, he said, showed that he has the interest of the country at heart.
On Wednesday, the President announced the second batch of his Cabinet secretary nominees, comprising politicians from the Azimio One Kenya coalition.
Those selected are ODM nominated MP John Mbadi (Treasury), Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi (Energy and Petroleum), and former governors Wickliffe Oparanya (Cooperatives) and Hassan Joho (Mining and Blue Economy).
“The President has made amends and met some of the demands of our younger generation. He has even agreed to form a government of national unity in the interest of the country,” Osenya said.
Ruto, he said, had shown goodwill to Gen Z by agreeing to some of their demands.
He singled out the contentious 2024 Finance Bill, which was eventually withdrawn by the President.
Citing these Ruto actions, the Kisumu UDA branch officials appealed to young people to call off their weekly protests so as to give more time for the changes they demand to be made.
Addressing reporters at the UDA regional offices in Kisumu, Osenya explained that a mechanism for addressing the issues raised by Gen Z is being developed and urged them to trust the process.
“We ask the Gen Z to accept the offer given by the President, who has demonstrated that he is ready to listen to what Kenyans are saying,” he added.
Meanwhile, he asked leaders to join the President in the proposed national dialogue.
Young people have sustained their wave of protests, demanding that President Ruto initiate more reforms in his administration.
