Newly elected Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Kisii County officials have already set the ball rolling just a week after taking office, as they seek to streamline football in all corners of the county.

On Sunday, the elected officials converged at Sameta Stadium Social Hall in a first consultative and induction meeting to enlighten each other on what is expected of them in reviving football that they said had been dwindling at an alarmingly high rate.

From the meeting, more than 4,000 players from more than 130 teams are set to benefit, after the officials agreed to introduce sub-county leagues for the first time in the history of football in Kisii, comprising 90 teams (10 from each sub-county).

They also agreed to have a vibrant county league for men comprising of 24 teams divided into Zone A, B and C and a women’s county league comprising of 10 teams with each sub-county fielding at least one women’s team. 

The officials also agreed to support the county’s four teams featuring in the FKF National Division Two, their Gusii Starlets team playing in the women’s second tier, FKF Women’s National Division One League and the heart of the county’s Betika National Super League side, Shabana FC.

On referees, the officials target to train more than 280 whistle blowers that will help run the county and sub-county leagues.

“All these plans are to ensure that Kisii County becomes a football hub. We want to make the county a football bedrock and the source of good players, coaches and referees. ,” FKF Kisii County chairman Jezreel Mbegera told People Sports.
