Kisia calls for age and experience to guide United Opposition flag bearer choice
By Mabonga Makhanu, September 28, 2025Former Nairobi town clerk Philip Kisia has urged the united opposition to consider age and political experience as key factors in settling for their 2027 flagbearer.
While speaking during an interview on Herman Manyora’s YouTube channel on Saturday, September 27, 2025, Kisia, who is also a key figure in the united opposition, has urged the united opposition to consider seniority as the key component in the flagbearer choice who will face President Ruto in 2027.
Other than seniority, Kisia suggests that the preferred choice should be able to communicate effectively and articulate himself properly, among other issues.

“So if you ask me, the issue of seniority must come into play – senior in terms of age, senior in terms of the experience that you’ve had in the political scene – and the issue of you being a good communicator and a diplomat. Look, Are you patient? Are you able to articulate yourself clearly? Are you able to project us?” kisia stated
Kisia further argues that this is a transition period where the old are handing over power to the young and not vice versa, and this is what informs the decision of considering age and past political experience before settling on the person who will be the face of united opposition.

“During this transition moment, because Kenya has to now prepare to hand over the generation. Must prepare to hand over to the new generation. The new generation cannot hand over to the old generation. It is the old generation to hand over in a neat and organised manner,“ he added.
United opposition
This comes at a time when the united opposition bigwigs are scratching their heads on who they will settle on as their presidential candidate.

All the principals are all harbouring presidential ambitions but have all agreed that when the right time comes, they will all drop their ambitions and settle on a single person who will fly them into 2027.
Recently Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, who is a key figure within the united opposition, stated that in 2027 he won’t settle for anything else other than the presidency since he has done so in the past 3 times.
