Speaker Amason Kingi, Oscar Sudi among mourners at Chepkut burial
The burial ceremony of former Ainabkoi Member of Parliament William Chepkut is currently underway at Kapsundei Primary School in Uasin Gishu County.
High-ranking government officials including Senate Speaker Amason Kingi, Uasin Gishu Governor Jonathan Bii Chelilim and Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi are among the mourners attending the event.
Chepkut will be laid to rest at his home in Kapsundei on Tuesday afternoon.
The burial was allowed to proceed on Monday after a court case to stop the former legislator’s interment was amicably resolved.
The widow of Chepkut had on Saturday accused the family of her late husband of blocking her children and locking her out of the burial preparations.
Milcah Samoei claimed that her sister and brothers-in-law have been intimidating her.
Samoei and her son, Nicholas Chepkut also noted that they were experiencing fights with their father’s family.
“I am not recognized by the family… I have experienced a lot of fighting with my husband’s siblings especially Daniel Kiprotich, Milka Chepkorir, and James Kiptoo. When we got married he had nothing, we started building ourselves from scratch by acquiring one property after another yet now I am not allowed to access my husband’s property,” Samoei said on Saturday.
Daniel Kiprotich, Chepkut’s brother, on Monday, said the matter had been settled and the burial would proceed as planned.
“We have since resolved the issue with Ms Samoei and we shall lay him to rest on Tuesday. As a family we shall meet after the lapse of the 40-day mourning period to discuss [the] succession of the properties and how to administer them,” Kiprotich told the press after receiving his brother’s body at Eldoret International Airport.
Chepkut served as Ainabkoi MP between 2017-2022.
He died on October 8 after a long illness.
