Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has urged Kenyans to pray for leaders across the political divide, even if they disagree with their views.

Speaking on Sunday during a church service at AIC Nairagie Enkare in Narok East, Narok County, on Sunday, June 15, 2025, Kindiki emphasised that it is to pray for the leaders, especially those who are currently in power, and that it is only right to pray for their success.

The second in command further noted that if a leader fails, the people he or she represents and the country also fail.

“You do not have to agree with your leaders; pray for them today, and if they are not good enough tomorrow, you have a chance to look for other leaders, but the person you have now occupying whatever position, pray for them that they may succeed,” he said.

“Only a foolish person prays for their leader or president to fail. You must pray for your leader to succeed because there is only one leader at a time, and if they succeed, the country succeeds, and if they fail, the people will fail.”

Kindiki went on to say that if the leaders who are currently in power are not good enough, Kenyans will have a chance to elect other leaders.

“Pray for your president, member of parliament, and MCAs; pray for your governor, and if they are not good enough, you will have a chance to elect another person in the future, but the people you have now, pray for them to succeed. Pray for our leaders, those in government and even those in opposition,” he urged.

He noted it is not mandatory to agree with the government’s decisions or the leaders in power, but it is also unpatriotic to pray for the failure of their leaders.

“It is unpatriotic for anyone to pray for Kenya or its leader to fail. You do not have to agree with the leaders all the time; you can have a different opinion, but you must pray for them to succeed,” he said.

Kindiki on Unity

This comes days after he appealed to political leaders to stop dividing Kenyans along tribal lines and instead unite and help improve their lives.

Speaking on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at Etago Stadium during a fund drive for various groups in South Mugirango constituency, Kindiki said that the unity of the nation and the security of Kenyans were more important, and the government will protect them, adding that leaders have a right to form political parties and differ in political ideologies.

“It is good for Kenyans to enjoy peace wherever they are and will not allow any leaders to whip emotions among communities and breach the prevailing peace,” Kindiki noted.

He urged Kenyans with divergent political views to give them but ensure they do not sabotage the country’s economy.

“We do not want leaders to incite each other based on religion and tribes. We are one country, one people, and Kenya is our home,” Kindiki noted and urged Kenyans to embrace tolerance.
