Kindiki says no leader should be stopped from issuing bursaries

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki now says that no leader should be prevented from issuing bursaries in the country.
Addressing a section of Nakuru residents on Thursday, April 24, 2025, Kindiki emphasized that all bursaries should be issued to those in need regardless of who is issuing them. He equally advocated for many leaders issuing them to help children access quality education.
“Ile inakuja kupitia bunge, ofisi ya gavana, Ministry of Education ipeanwe; na mtoto wa Kenya ni mtoto wa nchi ya Kenya, hakuna mtoto wa national government na mtoto wa county government, so mambo ya bursary viongozi wote; as many leaders as possible should issue bursaries, I know there is a small issue of controller of budget to ensure that bursaries are streamlined,” he said.

Kindiki’s remarks comes weeks after his boss President William Ruto addressed the matter, directing the Ministry of Education and the county governments to develop a framework for bursaries to enable the two levels of government to support needy students.
Ruto who was speaking in Kangema, Murang’a County, where he was accompanied by Kindiki, a section of governors, Cabinet Secretaries, and MPs added that the framework will be crucial in addressing concerns by the Office of the Controller of Budget by making sure that every child accesses bursaries.

The president shared similar sentiments to Kindiki, stating that it should not matter whether the funds were from the national government or counties, so long as the students received the financial support they need.
“Bursaries are the right of all our children. Whatever is required from the National Government, we are going to make it possible because we want bursaries to get to all students who need them,” he said at the time.
