Interior CS Kindiki replaces all 8 regional commissioners in major changes

By , January 2, 2023

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has appointed eight new regional commissioners and recalled all the serving administrators to the ministry’s headquarters in Nairobi for redeployment.

In a statement on Saturday, December 31, Kindiki said the changes take effect immediately and are aimed at enhancing service delivery.

The new regional commissioners are Rhoda Onyancha (Coast), John Otieno (North Eastern), Paul Rotich (Eastern), Fredrick Shisia (Central), Abdi Hassan (Rift Valley), Samson Irungu (Western), Flora Mworoa (Nyanza) and Katee Mwanza (Nairobi).

“All region commissioners have been recalled to the ministry headquarters for further deployment,” the notice reads in part.

The changes come three months after President William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza administration assumed office.

President Ruto and his Deputy Rigathi Gachagua had during the campaign period claimed that the administrators including county commissioners were being used to settle political scores and frustrate the Kenya Kwanza leader’s State House bid.

Meanwhile, Kindiki on Saturday also named Anne Ng’etich as the new Principal Administrative Secretary (PAS) at the Ministry of Interior and National Administration. Prior to the appointment, Ng’etich was serving as Secretary of Administration in the State Department for Lands and Physical Planning.

In the sweeping changes, Beverly Opwora, currently County Commissioner for Makueni County, takes over as the Secretary for National Administration.

Wajir County Commissioner Jacob Namule has been appointed Secretary for Peace Building.

Kindiki also appointed three new county commissioners including Tom Anjere (Kisii), William Kaimba (Makueni) and Felix Watakila (Kajiado).
