Kiambu Woman Rep Ann Wamuratha and human rights organisations have condemned the alleged mistreatment of female workers at the Limuru-based Brownscheese Company by their seniors.

Wamuratha, who spoke to the media in Limuru yesterday, urged the court to ensure that justice is served  to all the 35 victims.

“We hope that the matter will be expedited by the court and we have  confidence with  our  Judiciary,” she said.

She spoke a day after the  suspects  Rose Opondo, who was in charge  of Quality  Assurance at the  firm,  and  Vivian  Mukoko,  who  was in charge of  Human Resource,  were  released  by a  Limuru court.

The are accused of forcing female workers to undress after a sanitary towel was found a dust bin at the company’s premises.

The duo was released on a cash bail of  Sh300,000 and a surety  of a similar  amount  each or a cash  bail  of Sh150,000 each.

Limuru Senior Principal Magistrate Jared Mang’oli also  ordered the two to report  to  the  Limuru  Sub-County Criminal Investigation Officer Felix Mutua  twice  a week. The case will be  mentioned on July 24.
Pacifica Ongecha, Groots  Kenya ambassador in Kiambu  County,  regretted that it was women who subjected fellow women to indignity.

“It is a shame  and  more so a taboo for young  ladies  to  order  women, some  of them in their menopause to remove  their  underwear to know who among them was in their menses,” she said.

The Institute of Human Resource Management  said it was deeply  concerned by alleged bullying and sexual harassment of female employees at Brown’s  Food Company, Tigoni.
