Similarly, Khalwale had expressed concern in November 2023 that the county government had pulled out of the project, leaving it vulnerable to vandalism.
“What has happened is that the county government has pulled out of that hospital, the construction has stopped, security for the project has been removed and now what is happening is that there is vandalism both from employees of the county government and the public,” Khalwale told the Senate.
Kakamega Teaching and Referral Hospital upgrade
On Friday, April 5, 2024, Nakhumicha made a tour of Kakamega County accompanied by Kakamega Deputy Governor Ayub Savula and other leaders from the county.
In a statement, Savula disclosed that the county had been in contact with Indian investors regarding financial support for the facility’s equipment.
During the tour, Nakhumicha also noted that the hospital played a vital role as the main public referral hospital in Kakamega County and its surroundings.
In an effort to examine the facility’s readiness for upgrading to a Level 6 Hospital, the CS announced the formation of a multi-agency team.
Upon completion, the facility is expected to serve as a referral hospital in the former Western province in the counties of Bungoma, Busia and Vihiga.
