A section of Kenyan Premier League teams met yesterday and resorted not to fold the body whose contract expired on September 24, but instead use it to champion for their rights collectively.

According to a senior club official who attended the meeting that was held at Waridi Paradise Hotel and Suites along Argwings Kodhek Road, the clubs unanimously agreed not to fold KPL and insisted on being involved in any decision making in regards to the league for them to forge forward together.

They accused FKF boss Nick Mwendwa for ‘material misrepresentation’ arguing that they should have been involved in all deals regarding the league they played in, since they were key stake holders, yet Mwendwa carried out the negotiations without their knowledge.

“Representatives of seven clubs, namely Gor Mahia, Mathare United, Zoo FC, Ulinzi Stars, AFC Leopards, Tusker FC and Bandari attended the meeting physically and four clubs, Sofapaka, Kakamega Homeboyz, Sony Sugar and Kisumu All Stars were represented by proxicies,” said the official.

He added: “FKF should not lie to Kenyans, because if they owned the rights why would they seek endorsement letters from clubs?

The bottom line is that FKF sold rights they didn’t own and that can only be done in consultation with the clubs.”

The group is planning for an Annual General Meeting (AGM) in two weeks time for further action.

“Sony Sugar and Kisumu All Stars attended the meeting because they are still shareholders of KPL and will relinquish their shares to promoted sides, since they have been relegated,” he said.
