Kenyan-born US politician Momanyi plans to meet leaders of Nyamira, Kisii home counties

Kenyan-born Huldah Momanyi Hiltsley, who was elected to the Minnesota House of Representatives in November, is set for a homecoming party in Nyamira county today.

The visit comes days after she landed in Kenya from the United States and attended this year’s Jamhuri Day celebrations that was presided over by President William Ruto at Uhuru Gardens in Nairobi.

Hiltsley, 39, later gave a keynote address on gender-based violence at Daystar University in Nairobi during a meeting of professionals from the Gusii region.
She is scheduled to meet Nyamira Governor Amos Nyaribo at his office and the two will discuss issues of collaboration. Some of the key collaboration areas are education, health and governance, Momanyi said.

“I ‘m coming home mainly to have us discuss collaboration avenues that will see locals benefit from interlinked opportunities within [Kenya] and even abroad,” she said.

Nyaribo said he was ready to lead Nyamira residents in celebrating the rise of Momanyi in US politics.

“We are so much delighted as residents of Nyamira to welcome back our daughter, who is now a strategic person in interlinking and promoting our relations with the US,” he said.

“We shall explore all available avenues that will lead to our county benefiting from the collaboration we shall forge.”

The politician is also expected to pay a courtesy call on Kisii Governor Simba Arati at a later date.

Hiltsley, 39, migrated to the US with her parents when she was nine. She was elected to represent Minnesota’s District 38A.
