“Major traffic disruptions have been reported along the Expressway (Museum Hill exit), Limuru Road, Bunyala Road, Lusaka Road and parts of the CBD.”

The humanitarian organisation also reported that the Nairobi River and Ngong River have overflowed their banks, causing riverine flooding in nearby settlements and low-lying areas.

Causes of floods

This comes days after the Kenya Red Cross secretary general Idris Ahmed attributed the flooding in the city to poor infrastructural developments and heavy rainfall, which is capable of overwhelming the drainages. The death toll from floods has now hit 65 as the search and rescue of those missing still continues
