Kenya Power has announced a planned nationwide power interruption set for Thursday, October 9, 2025, affecting select counties across different regions.
The company said the scheduled outage is part of routine maintenance and system upgrade works aimed at improving electricity reliability and service delivery.
In a statement posted on its official X account on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, Kenya Power said the blackout will affect parts of Nairobi, Machakos, Uasin Gishu, Kisumu, Kakamega, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, and Kiambu counties between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

In Nairobi, customers along Mombasa Road will be among those affected. The areas include Intercountry, Small World Country Club, Game Ranch, Aquaest, Kanini Clinic, Brava, Lukenya Academy, Ksyumbunguo Hotel, Amazing Kenya, and nearby establishments. Parts of Kitsuru, including Gachie Market, Nyari, sections of Thingiri Road, Redhill Road, and Limuru Road, will also experience interruptions.
In Machakos County, the outage will hit parts of Matuu Town and surrounding areas such as Kakumini, Kithendu, Muthesya, Mamba, Sofia, and Yatta Water, among others.
Kenya Power also said parts of Uasin Gishu County, especially around Kapchumba, including Lower Kiplombe, Kambi Thoma, and Chemambai, will be affected.

In the Western region, sections of Kisumu County, such as Apondo Kasare, Thur Dibuoro, Nyakwere, Kongowo, and Sangoro, will go off the grid, as well as parts of Kakamega County, including Butali Market, Butali Sugar Factory, Mastakha Market, and Matete.
In the Mt. Kenya region, power will be interrupted in Nyeri County’s Gikondi and Kibutio areas, including Gikondi Technical and Nduma Market. In Kirinyaga County, residents of Kianyaga, Rukenya, and Philadelphia will be affected, including Kianyaga Town, Kiandai Market, and Philadelphia Hotel.
The Kiambu region will also experience interruptions, with Kikuyu Town, Magana, and areas around YMCA, Broadway, and BAT expected to be without electricity.
Kenya Power urged affected customers to plan accordingly and apologised for the inconvenience, saying the maintenance exercise is part of its ongoing efforts to stabilise supply and prevent unplanned blackouts in the future.
