Kenya Power lists areas to experience blackout on Thursday, April 8

Kenya Power has issued an advisory for planned power interruptions affecting parts of Nairobi, Kajiado, Kisii, Nyeri, Kiambu, Kitui, Mombasa, and Kilifi counties on Thursday, April 9, 2026.

The outages are part of routine network maintenance aimed at improving the reliability of electricity supply.

“Good evening. The listed area will be affected by planned power interruptions tomorrow. The interruption is part of network maintenance,” Kenya Power stated in a post on its official X account.

In Nairobi, residents in parts of Parklands will experience a blackout from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm. Affected areas include General Mathenge, Ring Road, Suswa Road, Kusi Lane, sections of 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 6th Parklands, Mpaka Road, Wangapala Road, Ngao Road, Eldamaravin Road, and surrounding customers.

Similarly, parts of Umoja 2 will be affected from 8.00 am to 5.00 pm. Areas affected include St. Veronica Catholic Church, Face to Face and Ahero Pubs, Umoja 2 Zone 8, Tumaini and Kifaru Schools, and adjacent customers.

In Kajiado County, the town of Kitengela will experience an outage from 8.00 am to 5.00 pm. This will affect several estates, schools, businesses, and institutions, including Ideal, Bonito Estate, Church Road, Temple, Danka, Maasai Flowers, Accacia Paradise, Optiven, Chief Muntunkei, Enkacity Resort, Kajiado East Technical, Maz International, and Ostrich Farm, among others.

South Nyanza residents in Kisii County will also face power interruptions. In Keroka town, Ichuni, and Nyanturago, the blackout will run from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm, affecting Keroka Hill Top Hotel, St. Charles Lwanga, Ichuni Girls, St. James Ichuni Secondary, Keroka TTC, Nyanturago Secondary, and nearby customers. Nyangweta, Etago, and Ekona areas will also be affected during the same hours.

Other parts

In the Mt. Kenya region, parts of Nyeri County, including Thangathi and Kiuu, will have power off from 8.00 am to 5.00 pm, affecting Ithanji, Gataro, Gitino, Mbugwa, Nguyaini, Ujamaa, Maseno, and surrounding areas.

In Kiambu County, Kibichoi and Komothai will experience outages from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm, including Marige, Komothai Boys and Girls, Githioro Shops, Gathugu, Kigumo Shops, and adjacent customers. Kitui County’s Migwani, Musuani, and Kyamboo areas will be affected from 8.00 am to 5.00 pm, impacting Musuani, Thokoa, Kwa Soo, Kea, Nzauni Primary, Migwani, Kyamboo, and neighbouring areas.

In the Coast region, parts of Mombasa County, including Nyali, VOK, and Bombolulu, will face power interruptions from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm. Affected areas include Ores Estate, Nyali Plaza, Oshwal Enclave, Beach Road, Salama Estate, Simba Estate, Frere Town, Makaburini, Kongowea Primary, VOK, and surrounding customers.

Kilifi County’s Kakonei and Jilore areas will also be affected from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm, including Jilore, Kakoneni Market, Kakoneni Girls School, and Sosoni.

Residents are encouraged to check the latest schedule via Kenya Power’s online portal to confirm specific areas affected. The company said the maintenance work is aimed at improving service reliability and reducing unexpected outages in the future.
