Kenya Power has announced planned power outages in parts of Kisumu and Nyeri counties on Monday, April 6, 2026. The move is part of routine maintenance to improve the reliability of the electricity network.

“Please be advised that the following areas are scheduled for planned power maintenance tomorrow, 06.04.2026. For real-time updates, outage status, rebilling requests, token-related issues, and other self-service options, kindly visit our chatbot,” the utility company said in a post on its X account.

The Western region will experience blackouts in selected parts of Kisumu County. Areas affected include Wachara Primary, Wachara Village, Wachara Secondary, Wachara Market, Geta Primary, and adjacent customers. The outages will last from 9.00 am to 5.00 pm.

Meanwhile, parts of Nyeri County in the Mt. Kenya region will also face interruptions. Affected areas include M.O.W Karatina, Karatina Jambo, Yacob Deen, Omega, Kerugoya Junction, Aberdare, Thailand, Mwanda, and Ndaro-Ini. Additional locations include Gatundu, Gichatha-Ini, Bishop Kirima, Kiunyu, Thenge-Ini, Ihara, Kamunyaka, Gatura, Kahashu, and Miiri, among others. The blackouts will run from 8.00 am to 5.00 pm.

Kenya Power emphasised the importance of preparation.

“We urge our customers to plan ahead and make necessary arrangements to minimise inconvenience,” the company said.

April weather

The announcement comes as the country experiences mixed weather conditions. The Kenya Meteorological Department recently warned that April will bring variable rainfall, with some regions receiving heavy rains while others remain dry. The continued flooding has already affected thousands of people.

“The Kenya Meteorological Service Authority expects near-average rainfall in key areas, including the Highlands east and west of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, and the Rift Valley itself,” the department said. Parts of north-western Kenya will also see similar rainfall levels, while the south-eastern lowlands and the coastal region may receive below-average rain.

The timing of Kenya Power’s maintenance is important because unpredictable weather can affect electricity infrastructure. Heavy rains and floods can damage power lines and transformers, increasing the risk of unplanned outages.

Residents are advised to check the company’s digital platforms for updates during the maintenance. Planning ahead can help households and businesses reduce disruptions, particularly as heavy rains continue in some counties.
