Kenya Power announces blackout in parts of 3 counties on Saturday, November 15

Kenya Power has announced a planned power blackout affecting sections of Nandi, Nyeri, and Kakamega counties on Saturday, November 15, 2025.

The utility company released the schedule to allow residents and businesses to prepare.

In the North Rift region, parts of Nandi County will experience an outage in Kiborgok from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Areas affected include Kiborgok Girls, Fr. Kuhn, Koibem, and adjacent customers.

In the Mt. Kenya region, parts of Nyeri County will be affected in Chaka, Endarasha, and Mweiga from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Specific locations include Brookside Chaka, YATU Crusher, Roben Aberdare, Kimenju Farm, Kirinyaga Construction Yard, Kiawara, Ruirie, Lamuria, Bellevue, Kabendera, Karimiunu, Tanyai, Nairutia, Mugunda, Ngobit, Kariguini, Mahiga Meru, Gatuamba, Narumoro, Matopeni, and adjacent customers.

“Brookside Chaka, YATU Crusher, Roben Aberdare, Kimenju Farm, Kirinyaga Construction Yard, Kiawara, Ruirie, Lamuria, Bellevue, Kabendera, Ruirie, Karimiunu, Tanyai, Nairutia, Mugunda, Ngobit, Kariguini, Mahiga Meru, Gatuamba, Narumoro, Matopeni & adjacent customers.” Kenya Power said in a statement

Additionally, the Gitunduti Market area will be affected from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., including Gitunduti Market, Gitunduti Primary School, Kagochi Market, Kianjiru-ini TBC, Safaricom Boosters, Airtel Boosters, and adjacent customers.

In the Western region, parts of Kakamega County will experience an outage in Khayega and Ikolomani from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Areas affected include Shirere, Shitoto, Khayega, Ikolomani, Makhokho, Ighu, Shisesia, Lusui, Ivonda, Isanji, Mudere, Irongo, Keveye, and adjacent customers.

Residents and businesses in the affected areas are advised to make necessary arrangements during the scheduled blackout to minimise disruption.

Ruto on power rationing

The statement comes days after President Ruto, while speaking at an event in Doha to Kenyans living in the diaspora, explained that Kenya is currently experiencing power rationing.

He noted that the electricity produced is insufficient, forcing some areas to undergo temporary blackouts so that others can also access power, thereby preventing overloading of the national grid system.

“Between 5 pm and 10 pm, we have to do load-shedding. We have to shut off some areas to power other areas because our energy is insufficient.” Ruto said,
