Kenya Met warns of dry spells in parts of the country in weekly weather update
By Joel Masibo, December 2, 2025The Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD) has issued a weather update, revealing that most parts of Kenya are expected to experience sunny and dry conditions this week, even as isolated rainfall continues in a few regions, according to the latest outlook.
Based on the weekly weather update released by the weatherman on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, most parts of the country will continue recording little or no rainfall at all as the new month kicks in.
Sunny conditions dominate
The forecast indicates that while the majority of the country will remain generally dry, sections of the Central Highlands, Western Kenya, the Rift Valley, and the South-Eastern Lowlands will continue to receive light to moderate rainfall. These showers come as the short rains season gradually winds down, with overall rainfall amounts steadily decreasing.
Temperature variations expected
KMD has also highlighted notable temperature contrasts across the country. Daytime temperatures are expected to rise above 30°C in several hotspots, including:
The coastal region, northeastern and northwestern Kenya, parts of the southeastern lowlands, sections of the Rift Valley and areas within western Kenya. These conditions point to warming trends typical of early December.

Nighttime temperatures, on the other hand, may drop below 10°C in the Central Highlands, the North and Central Rift Valley, parts of Western Kenya and regions near Mt Kilimanjaro. Residents in these areas are advised to brace for chilly nights and early mornings.
Review of last week’s weather
Weather patterns recorded last week showed declining rainfall across the country. Only a few areas received meaningful precipitation.
The highest 7-day rainfall total was 45.9 mm, recorded at Kavingo Station in Kitui County. Mandera experienced the highest maximum temperature, reaching 37.2°C on 25 November. The coldest conditions were reported in Nyahururu, where temperatures dropped to 4.6°C on 27 November.
These trends reflect the transition period between the short rains peak and the onset of drier seasonal conditions.
As the country moves deeper into the festive season, the weatherman has predicted a relatively dry spell during the first week of December, close to similar weather conditions experienced in the month of November.
