Kenya and Dominican Republic eye collaboration in medical manufacturing sector

Kenya is seeking to collaborate with the Dominican Republic in medical manufacturing and vaccine production.
Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, who doubles up as the Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Minister, on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, revealed that he held talks with Victor Atallah, Minister of Public Health of the Dominican Republic.
During the talks, Mudavadi says they had also explored opportunities for collaboration in the training of healthcare professionals.
UHC agenda
Mudavadi further noted that the identified areas of collaboration are key pillars in advancing Kenya’s universal healthcare agenda.
Their discussions also focused on medical support for personnel deployed under the Multinational Security Support Mission in Haiti, including emergency evacuation and vaccination.
Atallah is said to have affirmed swift and coordinated response efforts, grounded in the MoU signed earlier this week between the two countries.
“Met with H.E. Dr @vicatallah, Minister of Public Health of the Dominican Republic, for productive discussions on medical support for personnel deployed under the Multinational Security Support Mission in Haiti, including emergency evacuation and vaccination.
“Minister Atallah affirmed swift and coordinated response efforts, grounded in the MoU we signed earlier this week. We also explored opportunities for collaboration in medical manufacturing, vaccine production, and the training of healthcare professionals, key pillars in advancing our universal healthcare agenda. Also present were Amb. Mwenda Karisa and Vice Minister of Public Health, Gina Estrella,” Mudavadi stated.

MSS Mission in Haiti
The two countries’ move to explore more opportunities for collaboration comes a day after they signed an agreement to support the members of the Multinational Security Support Mission (MSSM) in Haiti.
Mudavadi and the foreign minister of the Dominican Republic, Roberto Alvarez, signed the MoU on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, in Santo Domingo.
The agreement is on medical evacuation and repatriation of wounded persons and bodies, as well as the logistical access to the Dominican Territory of Kenya and members of the MSSM support in Haiti.
Speaking after signing the MoU, the two leaders noted that the situation in Haiti severely impacts the security of the Dominican Republic and other neighbouring Caribbean nations and that it is the responsibility of the international community to restore peace and stability in Haiti.
Mudavadi stated that the agreement reiterates the government’s commitment to supporting the MSS Mission by establishing evacuation protocols and ensuring the safety and well-being of the Kenyan personnel in Haiti.
“We appreciate the cooperation of the Dominican Republic in the MSS Mission, which highlights the importance and value of nations coming together to achieve sustainable peace in the region for the greater good of humanity,” Musalia stated.
