KeNHA urges motorists to stay alert amid geological risks near roundabout in Nakuru
By Faith Lagat, September 6, 2025The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has urged motorists to continue exercising caution along the A8 Road near Eveready Roundabout following recent geological activity that has affected the road’s stability.
The advisory comes amid seasonal rains, which experts warn could exacerbate the risk of sinkholes and road collapses, posing danger to road users and commuters.
In a statement on X on September 6, 2025, KeNHA advised drivers to stay alert.
“The Kenya National Highways Authority wishes to notify members of the public to continue exercising caution as they drive towards Eveready Roundabout on the A8 Road. This is due to some earlier noted geological activities that had undermined the road shoulder and could potentially recur, especially with the rains,” the post read.
The authority assured the public that it is working with geologists and other government agencies to conduct a full assessment and implement long-term solutions.

Sinkhole forces temporary road closure
The warning follows a disruption that began on September 3, when KeNHA had to close a section of the Nakuru-Eldoret Road at Eveready Roundabout after a sinkhole emerged. The closure caused significant traffic congestion, prompting rapid intervention from engineers and traffic marshals to secure the area.
“KeNHA is working round the clock to ensure normal traffic flow is restored. Motorists are advised to exercise caution as they approach the area and follow directions from traffic police and marshals to ensure the safety of all road users,” the authority said at the time.
The Nakuru-bound carriageway was reopened on September 4 after safety checks confirmed stability, offering relief to commuters and transport operators who had faced delays. KeNHA emphasised that continuous monitoring would remain in place to prevent future incidents, highlighting the authority’s commitment to road user safety.
Ongoing vigilance
The authority’s advisory has also reminded motorists to strictly adhere to traffic signs, marshals’ instructions, and speed regulations while navigating areas prone to geological risks.
As the rainy season continues, KeNHA is expected to remain vigilant, ensuring that the Nakuru-Eldoret highway remains safe and operational despite ongoing environmental and geological challenges.
“In the meantime, motorists are urged to abide to the relevant traffic signs and rules for the safety of all road users.”
