The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) issued a public reminder stating that a major section of the Marigat-Loruk (B17) Road remains closed to all traffic.

In a public announcement on Friday, March 13, 2026, KeNHA said the 10-kilometre stretch, located between Km 29+800 and Km 40+000, has been impassable for over seven months, with the original closure dating back to August 21, 2025.

“The Kenya National Highways Authority wishes to remind the public that the Marigat-Loruk (B17) Road between Km 29+800 and Km 40+000 has been closed since 21st August, 2025,” KeNHA noted.

The authority noted that the prolonged disruption is attributed to fast-rising water levels of Lake Baringo, which have flooded the roadway.

Essential public safety

The officials have cautioned motorists against attempting to use the submerged section, emphasising that the closure is essential for public safety.

“This is due to flooding of the road caused by the fast-rising water levels of Lake Baringo,” KeNHA stated.

To maintain regional connectivity, KeNHA Director General Eng. Luka Kimeli urged motorists to continue using the designated alternative diversion route.

Travellers can exit the B17 road at Km 29+200, which then intersects the Loruk-Chemalingot road at Km 2+400.

“Motorists are urged to continue utilising the alternative diversion route at Km 29+200 on Marigat-Loruk (B17) Road that will intersect on Loruk-Chemalingot at Km 2+400,” KeNHA stated.

Commitment

The Authority reiterated its commitment to restoring seamless connectivity to facilitate the movement of goods and services, noting that road user safety remains their utmost priority as they monitor the environmental conditions.

“The Authority cautions road users against any attempts to use this section of the road in the interest of their safety. The Authority remains committed to ensuring seamless connectivity to facilitate the safe passage of goods and services for economic prosperity. At KeNHA, your safety is our utmost priority,” KeNHA said.
